do you feel that too? features Kageusa, a young VTuber and veterinary student specializing in virtual animals. Between kawaii softness and creepy unease, the video unfolds as a looping sequence shot in which the initial situation of online address gradually breaks down: what first seemed to belong to a stream, an exchange with an audience, or a staging of the self becomes a more uncertain experience, where the point of view circulates between the character, the device and the space that surrounds her. The film continually shifts our position as viewers, moving from a frontal relation to more ambiguous regimes of vision: subjective viewpoint, observation from a moving phone, mirror, technical camera, and an almost intrusive or threatening presence…
Drawing on the codes of streaming, VTubing and parasocial relationships, do you feel that too? considers virtual presence as a contemporary technology of subjectivation. Beyond the mask or the character, the avatar functions as an environment: a surface of attachment, projection, control and vulnerability. The film thus moves the stakes of digital embodiment into a more sensory and political zone, where the fatigue of visibility, the desire to be otherwise, the affective economy of platforms and the anxiety of an image that begins to look back all intersect.
